➟ Back to Using openBVE
If you experience problems running openBVE, try what is listed on this page before asking for support on the forum.
These following applies to all operating systems.
Q: I get very low performance (few frames per second). What can I do?
| |
A: openBVE uses OpenGL for 3D graphics, which is implemented in the graphics driver. Without adequate support for OpenGL by the graphics driver, openBVE might run in software mode without hardware acceleration, or with reduced performance. If you have never updated your graphics driver before, this would be a good time to try a newer version, or if you are using the latest version, to try an older version. You can download drivers from the the website of the video card's manufacturer.

The following only applies to the Windows operating system.
Q: When starting openBVE, a message of the form "openBVE has encountered a problem and needs to close" appears. What can I do?
| |
A: Make sure that you followed the installation instructions. In particular, make sure that your openBVE folder eventually contains all required DLL files as depicted in the final illustration.
Q: When starting openBVE, a message of the form "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)" appears. What can I do?
| |
A: Make sure that you followed the installation instructions. In particular, make sure that you have installed the .NET Framework 2.0 or higher.
Q: When loading a route or train, an error of the form "An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)" is reported. What can I do?
| |
A: This is difficult to answer. Some external DLL file is reported by Windows as being of an incorrect format, either due to file corruption, or due to a 32-bit vs. 64-bit compatibility issue. On Windows, you should currently download 32-bit versions of the dependencies and use OpenBve.exe.
Q: The game crashes with a Blue Screen of Death or just resets the computer. What can I do?
| |
A: BSODs are almost always caused by faulty device drivers. Try updating your graphics driver, sound driver, peripherals drivers - or try older versions if available in case you are already using the most recent versions.
Q: The game hangs or freezes somewhere after loading a route. What can I do?
| |
